Shawlands Primary Bike Loan Library can loan bikes and equipment for adults and kids at no cost!
We have kids bikes, adult bikes, a folding bike and an e-cargo bike available, as well as helmets, lights and locks.

Is this service free?
Yes! We want to break down barriers to cycling as much as possible and for this first, pilot year of the loan library it will remain free to use.Can anyone access the service?
The bike library available for families at Shawlands Primary School and is operated on a first come, first served basis. As long as there is a suitable bike available anyone at the school can access the service (including teachers and school staff!)Do I have to be able to ride a bike before I loan one?
When hiring a bike, we recommend that you/your child can pedal independently already. However, if you/your child are just learning to pedal, we can refer you to Women on Wheels for ‘pay what you can’ cycling lessons.How long can I loan a bike for?
Bike loans are for a month at a time and longer loans for the summer holidays. If there is no waiting list, you can roll your loan over for another month.How do I reserve a bike?

Yes! Providing that we have bikes available, you can reserve one bike for each member of your family.What bike sizes and equipment are available?
We have at least one of the following sizes/bikes available:- Balance bike
- Kids 16” (age 4-5)
- Kids 18” (age 4-6)
- Kids 20” (age 5-6)
- Kids 24” (age 8-10)
- Kids 26” (age 10-12)
- Adult small hybrid
- Adult medium hybrid
- Adult folding bike
- E-Cargo longtail bike
We also provide helmets, locks and lights with each loan.
What if the bike I want is not available?
You will be added to our waiting list and we will be in touch as soon as the bike you’re looking for is available.Why do you need my personal details?
We need your name, proof of ID and address so we know who we are lending the bike to. We need your email address so that we can ask you for feedback on the bike library to give to our funders, Cycling UK.Can I buy a kid's bike?
We currently do not sell kids' bikes, they are instead provided via our library loan scheme. If you need advice on where to buy a bike after your loan or you would like help in what size to get etc, we can help and signpost you.Do I need to bring anything when I collect the bike?
You will need to bring proof of ID (Passport, Driving License, Bank Card) and proof of address (council tax or utility bill etc). We accept these in digital format if you aren’t able to bring paper copies.What if I pick the wrong size/ the bike doesn’t fit?
We hope to fit the bike to you/ your child when you come to pic it up - so hopefully this shouldn’t happen. But if you take it away and it doesn’t feel right, we’re happy to change it if there is another bike size available.How do I return a bike?
We will provide you with a time slot to return the bike. If you’re unable to make one of these, let us know.What if I’m unable to return the bike on its due date?
Get in touch with us as soon as you can to let us know and we’ll arrange another return date for you.Do you provide cycling lessons too?
No we don’t, however if you would like to learn or gain confidence cycling, we have partnered with Women on Wheels who provide group and 1-1 cycling lessons for families with a ‘pay what you can’ model.I have a question about something else, how can I contact you?
